Cause of vomiting	Distinguishing clinical feature/s
Overfeeding	History of overfeeding and absence of features of another serious cause.
Reflux	Small milk possets after feeds in a well infant.
Sepsis	Temperature or clinically unwell infant.
Pyloric stenosis	Projectile non-bilious vomiting after feeds, then hungry; olive-shaped mass; visible right-to-left peristalsis.
Intussusception	Intermittent episodes of crying and pallor, with the infant well in between.
Malrotation	Distended abdomen, distressed with pain, bilious vomiting, feeding issues since birth.
NEC	Prematurity.
Metabolic disorder	Family history, failure to thrive, hypoglycaemia, dysmorphism, or seizures.
Infective gastroenteritis	Rapid onset diarrhoea +/- vomiting, fever, abdominal pain, often a contact with similar symptoms.
