a. X-ray abnormalities

Small bowel loop dilatation consistent with small bowel obstruction.
Large bowel loop distension consistent with large bowel obstruction.
No gas in sigmoid colon or rectum.
No free gas.

b. Pathological causes

Stenosing malignancy.
Adhesions.
Ischaemic bowel.
Faecal impaction.
Internal or external hernia.
