A 45-year-old woman is successfully intubated by your registrar for multifocal pneumonia. Shortly after several antibiotics are started, you notice her BP fall from 140/70 to 80/40 mmHg and her SaO2 fall from 98% to 90%. Her heart rate then rises from 110 to 180/min, ETCO2 falls from 38 to 20 mmHg and peak airway pressure rises to 30.
