SAQ 1580 – Quadbike chest trauma and analgesia planning

A 52-year-old man presents after rolling his quadbike. He is conscious but has severe right-sided chest pain. CT shows right rib fractures 5-10 with a small pneumothorax. His only other injury is a closed ankle fracture in a plaster backslab.

You decide that ICC insertion is not currently warranted and are admitting him directly to a surgical unit for ward review within 4 hours.
