An 8-year-old girl presents after falling from her bicycle onto a stick. She was wearing a helmet but no other safety gear.
She is alert and distressed. Observations are pulse 110/min, BP 105/70 mmHg, capillary refill time 3 seconds, RR 24/min and SpO2 92% on 6 L/min oxygen by non-rebreather mask.
There is a 10 cm laceration to the right lateral abdomen at the level of the umbilicus. The wound photograph is shown below.
