SAQ 1658 – Severe paediatric asthma with post-intubation hypotension

A 12-year-old girl is brought by ambulance with an asthma exacerbation and minimal response to pre-hospital nebulised salbutamol. On arrival her GCS is 15, pulse 180/min, BP 100/65 mmHg, RR 45/min, and oxygen saturation 88% on 6 L oxygen by Hudson mask. Despite initial management she deteriorates and requires intubation for fatigue with type 2 respiratory failure. Shortly after intubation she becomes hypotensive.
